Mike, a chiropractor from Latham NY,
attended SUNY Albany, and began playing guitar and 5-string banjo with "Bare Mountain Boys", a popular bluegrass band. During the mid to late 70's, Mike became influential in the revival of Bluegrass music regionally, giving him the opportunity to earn enough to finish college. Also, during this time, he played with "Double Duelin" and a country rock group, "The Road Band". While at Texas Chiropratic College in Houston early in the 80's, Mike could be found jamming and teaching Bluegrass music to budding musicians on campus during his four years there.
Mike's style of using 3 finger picks on his guitar adds a Lester Flatt flavor to the rhythm for back up of banjo and mandolin. Mike is a Board member of the Adirondack Bluegrass
League and the Northeast CMA, and supports the activities and jam sessions of the ABL and the Northeast Bluegrass Association. He is also a member of the International Bluegrass Music Association. His original music is becoming recognized, receiving more airplay. His composition, "The Green Island Bridge" was recently
featured as the focal point in the 25th anniversary of the collapse of the bridge. Reminiscent of brother duets of the 50's and 60's, Mike's vocal range, combined with his partner's wide vocal range, provide a clean, high and lonesome sound. |
